The designer, previews and template history
Build an email from blocks without HTML, check it on a phone and in dark mode, and bring back an earlier version.
The designer
Choose Designer as the format. You can start from a ready-made layout (Newsletter, Announcement, Invitation, Offer or Personal note) or from a blank page. You build the email from blocks: your logo, a heading, text, a picture, a button, a bullet list, a quote, two columns, a divider line, or some space. Drag a block by its handle to move it (the arrows work too), delete what you don't need, and watch the preview on the right, in desktop or phone width, light or dark. Vecta writes the HTML for you, in the plain, inbox-safe form every mail program understands.
- An unsubscribe line is always added at the bottom. You can't forget it or remove it.
- Type
{{first_name|there}}straight into any text.**bold**works in text. - The button takes your button colour, and its words turn white or dark so they stay readable.
- Pictures must already be online at an https address. Add a description for people whose inbox hides images.
- Links can go to web addresses, email addresses (
mailto:) or a variable. Anything else becomes a dead link rather than something unsafe.
Designer emails stay designer emails
A designed email is saved with its blocks, so you can open it again and keep editing. Switching it to HTML or plain text turns it into ordinary text to edit by hand, and the blocks are not kept.
Phone and dark mode
In the preview, the computer and phone buttons change the width, and the moon shows an approximation of dark mode. Every mail app darkens differently, so treat it as a warning sign (for example white logo boxes), not a promise. Send me a test shows the real thing.
History
Every time you save a change, the version is kept. At the bottom of a template, pick any version to see what is different from now: red lines are only in the older version and green lines were added since. Bring this version back makes it the current one, and keeps your current one in the history too, so you can undo it.
- Saving without changing anything doesn't add a version.
- Campaigns already sent keep what they sent. Editing or restoring a template affects future sends.
- The history shows the last 50 versions.
If something looks wrong
- My picture doesn't show: the address must start with https and the file must be reachable from the internet. Some inboxes also hide images until the reader allows them.
- "Add at least one block": an empty designed email can't be saved.
- The preview looks fine but the inbox differs: mail programs ignore some styling. Send yourself a test in the programs your readers use.
- I can't find my old wording: open the template's History and compare versions.
